Scottish Sheepskin Rug

Made from sheepskin.

Sourced from a small, family-run business on the Isle of Skye, still working from their original Waternish croft, where sheepskins once bound for landfill are transformed into beautifully tanned hides. Using ancient wool-on tanning techniques and vintage machinery, they handcraft limited-edition sheepskin and leather pieces. Each item embodies their dedication to craftsmanship, sustainability, and the timeless beauty of Scottish and British design.

This small white Highland sheepskin rug is just like little clouds of soft wool.  From sheep bred in the Highlands and Islands, the small "white" (usually more warm ivory than white) rugs have been handcrafted using a tree-bark tanning method and lovingly prepared by talented tanners.  They have been chosen for their extremely soft wool.  The fleeces are all quite individual, with either shorter or longer wool.  Most fleeces will have bear markings in the wool, from small black marks to the paint left put there by the crofter to recognise the sheep.  They add a little character!

Size: 31.5 L x 19.7 W in.

Care: Machine and hand washable. Use a wool cycle at 86°F, do not brush, we recommend gently separating the curls with your fingers. Always air dry and keep away from direct heat. While drying, gently stretch the leather to keep soft and supple.
